So, after hauling ass getting things done over the past few days (yay, productive me!), I was presented with the options of kicking back on the in-laws' couch to watch some TV (at which point I'd be asleep within 10 minutes), or going and doing something to try and not be asleep before 8:30 at night.

So, as I'd been resisting temptation all week to use my remaining Barnes and Noble gift cards, I figured I'd reward myself by doing some book shopping. Unfortunately, the B+N that I went to had absolutely nothing that I wanted to purchase, despite there being a dozen or so things I was looking for. After getting back home with nothing to show for my efforts (aside from a book ordered for my mother-in-law to check out and possibly purchase), I turned to the web.

Now, I'm short one of my two gift cards (peeve: apparently, I can only use one gift card with any on-line purchase, so I did have to charge some of the order), and have 7 books on order. So much for working through my to-be-read stack some before buying more....

(The order, in case anyone actually cares:

  • Illium, Dan Simmons

  • Fool's Errand, Robin Hobb

  • Golden Fool, Robin Hobb

  • Dragon, Steven Brust

  • Issola, Steven Brust

  • Paths of the Dead, Steven Brust

  • Groups: A Path to Geometry, R. P. Burn

Now if you'll all excuse me, I need to VPN into work to disable an alert, and then go crash.)

Let me know what you think of Ilium, which I have not read, and the geometry book, which I am quite certain you picked up only on my recommendation. Warning-- do not read that one without a clipboard, pencil and paper near to hand.

Will do. I haven't yet decided what order I'm gonna read stuff in -- I'm in the middle of my John Adams biography, as well as the Cryptonomicon, so I really ought to finish them off before starting anything new. I'll probably finish at least Cryptonomicon, then hit Ilium.

The geometry book is further out -- due to severe lack of use, my higher math skills have atrophied to the point of near-uselessness, so I'm going to have to start with Calculus, DiffEqs, and Linear Algebra reviews just to get back in the game, as it were.
