So yesterday morning, I parked my ass in the chair in front of the computer, armed with my Amazon.com wish list, two Barnes and Noble gift cards and my morning cup of coffee. After much to-and-fro-ing, selections were made, and a shopping cart with enough purchases to take all of the gift cards was taken to checkout.

Only to find out that apparently, Barnes and Noble only lets you use one gift card per order. Fuckers.

So, the cart was taken out behind the woodshed, some of the selections were removed to make the total fit the first gift card, and the purchase was made. The removals were put into another cart, and the second gift card was used.

The astute reader will note a lot of YA fantasy in there (the Cooper and the Alexander). I'm just gettin' ready for the daughter when she wants to read these, in about 10 years. That's all. Seriously.

This morning, I check my e-mail, and note that the smaller order was packed and ready to go on the 26th (yesterday), and should be sent today, and the larger order will be ready to go on the 29th (mainly due to getting the Cooper books). One thing I realized is that I'll be getting two copies of the same damn book, because when splitting the order, I didn't keep track of things as well as I'd thought, apparently. So while it's nice that I'll have another book I can get, the fact that I had to go through these convolutions in the first place annoys me to no end.

At least I didn't have to pay shipping on the thing, and the 'reader discount' card I have covered the sales tax.

Bastards.....

Cooper is still readable at our age, in my opinion. It still feels YA-y, but it's ... comfort reading.

This kind of nonsense is why I get irritated every time I have to shop at non-Amazon places. BN.com particularly has cheesed me off every time I've dealt with them.

Re-reads of childhood favorites

I'm somewhat nervous about rereading Cooper and Alexander. I reread some of the Daniel Pinkwater (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0374423296/qid=1104241649/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-4300371-5863310?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) stuff recently, and while a good, entertaining read, it didn't capture me the way it did when I was younger. I re-read the Sheri Tepper (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0441003311/qid=1104241690/sr=1-10/ref=sr_1_10/102-4300371-5863310?v=glance&s=books)'s True Game stuff, and was pretty cheesed off at the end (the big stuff that was being built up to was, how do we say it....really lame. Almost as lame as Russell's sequel to The Sparrow).

So far, this is not an awe-inspiring track record.

I like Cooper. Try her Seaward sometime, if you haven't. Very interesting, on more than one level.
