And sometimes the week is made of awesome

So in the past week I have

1. Been able to take an evening on my three-day trek out to the Bay Area for work, and catch up with [livejournal.com profile] merhawk. Though BF was out of town last-minute, it was still nice to be able to meet up and grab a leisurely dinner and chat for a few hours, even if I was overdressed for the area, apparently....

2. Been able to visit with [livejournal.com profile] prince_corwin for another evening, along with [livejournal.com profile] mcroft, [livejournal.com profile] immlass, and a few others at the tail-end of their con.

3. Score a copy (finally!) of Neverness.

All in all, a quite good week.

Yeah, I know.

I was only out there for three days, and didn't know until about noon on Tuesday that I'd be free enough of work to actually meet up with anyone. Next trip (since that mess looks to require a lot of help, so I'm assuming we'll get tapped again at some point to go out there to fix Yet More Stuff).

It's okay. Next time, come out during hockey season, and I'll drag you off to a Sharks game.

Ba-dum-dum.

Thanks very much, I'll be here all week. Try the veal.

Tip the veal and try your waiter. Good night!

I'm curious to know your thoughts on Neverness (http://www.thehumblest.net/?p=8)...pipe up when you've finished it, neh?

I snagged the first of the sequels via Kate and Chad's giveaway...we'll see how that goes.

I'd read it once before (I was in DC for a week, so I borrowed a copy off of [livejournal.com profile] prince_corwin, and read it at night and other times when I was just chilling at the hotel room. It was quite good as I recall, but then again that's what I said about C.S. Friedman's coldfire trilogy before I reread the first volume, so....

(On the gripping hand, I've got the next three books (Nameless God, War in Heaven and The Wild) already, so this completes the set, and I can just plow through all four in sequence after I finish up the Black Company reread I've started on.

_The Broken God_ is, in my opinion, much stronger than Neverness, and probably stronger than either of the two books that follow it. It is one of my favorite books. Let me know what you think of it.

Also, I've discovered over the years that most if not all of those funky words are not invented, they're just very very obscure. (I haven't seen a plausible origin for "Slel," though.)
