Friday morning asskickings

prince_ericSo the powers that be have started bringing us bagels for breakfast on Friday mornings, to encourage a little bit of a community spirit.
My boss has also contributed a chess set, as there are a few of us that play. So far, I'm 0 - 3 against him; I start out well, hem him in, and then seem to be frittering away both the initiative and the advantage in tactical precision. Part of it is my boss -- he plays a much more deliberative game then I, and I'm not adjusting my style to slow things down.
I'm also rusty as hell, especially at mid and end game.

Date: 2007-07-27 06:07 pm (UTC)I get off to great starts -- my boss in all the games is hemmed in and I'm driving his pieces back into horribly cramped positions *real* quickly (he even complimented me on taking the initiative away from him by the third move in today's game (I started as black). Unfortunately, I've lost the skill to wrap things up like I started, and in all three games he's kept his head and ended up winning.
Dammit.
