Ah...I have mine hard set to 0x500 (1280) by default on all my machines, and I never run into stupid pMTUd problems, encapsulation issues, or MS brainded TCP DNF flag troubles (it doesn't matter whether YOU'RE using Windows, much of the rest of the world is).

Unfortunately, corporate controls the OS, so I'm not completely free to muck with that....
