Since I haven't actually posted much lately....

Spent the past two weekends doing much yardwork -- planted two trees, three rhododendrons, one holly bush, and broke up the overpour of concrete from when they were building the house. In the process of planting, realized that perhaps part of the reason why I've got dead patches in my lawn is due to the massive amount of grubs I found. I had put down a generic grub/pest killer three weeks ago, and we've also put down more the past couple of days. Nice that we got all this rain -- not only does it help out the new plantings, but will also hopefully work that stuff into the lawn and kill off the damn things.

Picked up a new diplomacy game, and also an abandoned position in a second (it's a karma thing). In the first game got Austria as my power, got ganged up on by Italy, Turkey and Russia, and am down to my last SC (hopefully, Italy will finish me off this turn). The other game (as England) is going better -- stabbed France, but apparently Germany's a strategic putz. Still need to explain to him that a fleet on the northern coast of St. Petersburg cannot support any of his units moving around in central Russia.

The Sox are yet again giving us an ulcer-inducing season. The pitching's inconsistent (though Schilling and Foulke appear to be completely recovered from last season's injury woes), the hitting's, well, hit or miss. Josh Bard is gone, and Doug Mirabelli's brought back in. On the one hand, this will help Wakefield right away, but if I recall correctly, Bard was no worse then Mirabelli was when he first started to catch Wakefield every day. Hopefully, having two thirtysomethings as our catchers (and a third thirtysomething stashed away in AAA) won't come back to haunt us.

Jeremy Jacobs sucks. How's that Thornton trade working out for you now? So does Chelsea. Just one win more, that's all that was needed from you lot. I hope Mourinho gets sacked.

My wife had her second wrist surgery (carpal tunnel) -- this one's healing pretty well. We think that not slipping on a patch of ice and landing on a just-operated-on wrist may have something to do with this.

Our daughter's starting to use whole sentences. It's absolutely amazing to think that just about a year and a half ago, she was just this tiny little bundle that slept most of the day, and woke up every few hours to feed, look around, and then go back to sleep.

Work is...well...work.

Am most of the way through migrating away from panix.com as an ISP, and over to pair.com. More disk, more bandwidth, more control, more features. When playing around with MovableType's MTAmazon plugin, I hit a dead end at panix because I needed a MySQL database for it to work. To add that to my account would have added $10/month to my $15/month that I was already paying, whereas I could jump to pair, and for $18/month get an account with MySQL access as well as everything else I mentioned earlier. Panix stood me well for several years, after shore.net turned into a giant vat of suck ("Here, let me explain to you how backups work. Now restore the file I asked you for two weeks ago. Oh, and your server's been haxxored. I told you that two months ago, and the rootkit's still installed."), but it's time to move on. A few more mail addresses to update, and then I can close that account out.

Haven't been good about going to the gym the past two or three weeks -- colds, surgeries, and schedules have made it hard to keep any sort of rhythm going with that. Gotta get back into the swing of that.

Hm. Now that I think about it, perhaps there was a reason that I didn't post a whole hell of a lot to this.

When playing Medieval: Total War, England was easy to manage, but Turkey was very hard to play as. I wouldn't have dared to try anything as landlocked and surrounded as Austria.

Personally, I kicked butt as the Egyptians, and am now trying the Italians.

Very very well, thank you.

With arch-nemesis Forsberg gone, it's Sharks for the Cup!
