So, year one of my Diplomacy game has finished. All-in-all, it didn't go as horribly wrong as I'd feared it might have -- I'm playing as Russia this game, and Turkey moved into both the Black Sea and Armenia, and as a result I did lose Sevastopol.
On the other hand, Austria (surprisingly) supported me into Rumania (after an initial move into Gallicia), and Germany didn't bounce me in Sweden. So, as I said, not the worst possible turn of events.
This turn, if England keeps his word, I'll be making a play into Denmark, and trying to put a very quick, very brutal knife into Germany's back. With any luck, I'll pick up a couple of quick builds, and not lose too much ground in the south....
(For those that are curious, the map of a game (but not mine) with starting positions is at http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/maps/classical_18.pdf. This is a game that's in progress, but that at least shows the starting positions.)
